Dad in disbelief after girlfriend charged for his daughter’s murder. A dismayed and heartbroken Bethelsdorp father is struggling to understand why his girlfriend of four years allegedly strangled his nine-year-old daughter to death at Maitlands Beach before handing herself over to the police.

The body of a 9-year-old girl was found at Maitlands Beach yesterday, Monday, March 28, after she had allegedly been murdered by her father’s girlfriend.

The 25-year-old girlfriend has since been taken into custody.

Police spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naidu, said that at approximately 09:00, the suspect fetched the child from her father’s house in Bethelsdorp Extension 28 to take her for a haircut.

“During the day, the suspect hitch-hiked with the child, Quinisha Sebrand, to Maitlands Beach. It is further alleged that the child swam at the beach and some time in the afternoon, she was strangled and left on the beach,” Naidu explained.

She added that approximately 21:00 last night, the suspect went to the satellite police station in Seaview to report the incident. Quinisha’s body was found at Maitlands Beach.

The woman is detained on a charge of murder and the motive for the killing is still unknown. She is expected to appear in the Gqeberha Magistrates Court on Thursday, March 31.
