After the recent Lottery scandal, investigations into the commission has revealed that a non-profit organization, Venalor – whose director is Carol Bouwer, dubiously received a whooping R7million from the Lottery.

Documents that the publication got hold of reveal that in the 2018/2019 financial year, the company she directs receive R4.7 million.

In August of the same year, R2 million was also sent to the company account.

The last transaction made was of R292,300 made in November 2019. This brings all monies received to R7, 064,480.

But all the three company directors and the National Lotteries Commission could not explain what the money was meant for or how it was used.

She said her non-profit organization that happens not to have any digital print on the internet works with marginalized communities including the LGBTQ. This is where the money went towards, she said.

“..we have signed a grant agreement with the NLC, so everything about our projects is contained in the progress reports we have submitted to NLC. Furthermore, we not only have widespread media coverage of the funded projects – all bearing NLC branding so our clients may be aware of the support, but we also use social media to create visibility of their support,” she told GroundUp.
