The cause of death is still not clear. He was the former head of detectives in Gauteng and was among the first on the scene of the murder.
The former Bafana Bafana captain was shot and killed more than seven years ago.
Five men have been charged with his murder.
The trial finally got underway last month but was postponed to 30 May after the lawyer representing four of the accused was arrested on charges of contempt of court.
According to the Gauteng Police spokeswoman Colonel Atlenda Mathe, Brigadier Philani Ndlovu got sick on Tuesday after complaining of shortness of breath and died on Wednesday, Daily Sun reports.
The family has not yet confirmed the cause of Brigadier Ndlovu’s death. He retired from the police service in 2021.
However, what raises eyebrows is that he was scheduled to testify in court, as he has information on the suspected murderer who killed Senzo Meyiwa in Kelly Khumalo’s house on that fateful day.
An anonymous source who spoke to News24 said:
While he was the head of detectives, he was approached by someone who gave him information relating to what happened on the day Meyiwa was killed at singer Kelly Khumalo’s Vosloorus house. This is how he is linked to the case and that is what he was going to testify on.
Former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalie Meyiwa was shot and murdered in Khumalo’s house, with whom he had a child, in October 2014.
Muzikawukhulelwa S’Tembu Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Ziphozonke Maphisa and Fisokuhle Ntulijave Ntuli are on trial for his killing in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria.
