Police stop to buy a cooldrink – four dangerous criminals escaped A police officer went to buy cooldrink when the dangerous prisoners he was transporting overpowered him and escaped. One of them is still at large.
THE ESCAPED PRISONER IS CONSIDERED DANGEROUS AND ARMED
According to a Facebook post by AfriForum Pietersburg, the police officer stopped at the Eerstegoud Trading Store on Wednesday last week, 21 July 2021 to buy the prisoners he was transporting cooldrinks.
In the video, the officer can be seen leaving the police vehicle, and when he returns with the 2litre cooldrink and open the back of the van, he is overpowered. The door of the can is pushed open with force from inside, and shortly after that, you can see the men running around the vehicle, searching for something before they take off.
Moments later, the officer closes the van door before he calmly walks to the front of the police van. He is then seen phoning someone.
Four dangerous prisoners managed to escape. Three of them have been arrested, while one is still at large.
Police are still searching for Dennis Hove (39).
The video was shared by AfriForum Pietersburg, who assisted the police in locating three of the four missing prisoners.
Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, said the escaped prisoners also managed to grab the service pistol belonging to a police member during the incident before they fled.
Mojapelo said police had launched a manhunt.
“Seven prisoners were being transported from Polokwane Correctional Centre to Mokopane for sentencing when four of them allegedly escaped. The other three prisoners remained in the vehicle.”
He said the prisoners managed to escape from a police motor vehicle along the R101 road next to Eerstegoud Trading Store on Wednesday, 21 July 2021, at about 11h30.
The four escapees are John Fine (39)- Zimbabwean, Dennis Hove (39)-Zimbabwean, Figos Madisha (40)- South African, and Clifford Matonhori (31)- Zimbabwean.
“The four men were arrested and later convicted for robbery with aggravating circumstances which they committed during April 2019 in the Mokopane policing area. They were to be sentenced on Friday 23 July 2021.”
Mojapelo could not yet confirm the video or more information surrounding the escape.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has ordered a full probe into the circumstances of the escape with a view of determining exactly what happened.
