Popular eTV’s raunchy drama series The Black Door, has reportedly been canned. The show recently celebrated its 100th episode, but now reports have emerged that the channel has pulled the plug.

The Black Door Reportedly Gets Canned

The show’s cancellation comes after Black Brain, the production company behind the show recently announced that SK Khoza had landed the character of Sabelo.

According to entertainment commentator Phil Mphela, decommissioning the show is purely due to the dramatic decline in viewership. The show has been drawing just under 2.6 million viewers, with a 37.4 percent audience share, which is every night at 21h30; was not pulling in impressive numbers.

Tweeps reacted to the shocking news.

@Team_Rocket02 “I thought Mandla said this will b his focus with the canning of DiepCity? He must up the heat on BlackDoor & u’ll c the numbers go up & the decision reversed.”

@KMotlokwane “I’m not being mean or whatsoever but Black Brain Pictures shows are not cutting it with their audiences it seems ending up being canceled after first seasons. City Ses’la is still around because of something aketse eng.”

@smszwide_King “I guess Black Brain should continue doing Drama Series and Sitcoms,Telenovelas are not for them..They should continue with the likes of Sestop la and Lockdown.”

@lulushezi “No surprises. They thought sex only sells. We’re not a bunch of sex-crazed, violent people. Look at Skeem Saam. 10 years of consistency and hardly any controversy.”

This is the second Black Brain production to get cancelled lately. In August, the production company announced that its Mzansi Magic show DiepCity, had been discontinued.

In a statement Black Brain said the show was slated for two years and the contract is nearing its end.

“DiepCity has always been envisaged to be two years production in partnership with Mzansi Magic and now the contract is nearing its end. A deliberate and strategic move by Mzansi Magic, to offer viewers a dynamic show that would keep them glued to their screens and secure that slot,” read part of the statement.

DiepCity fans have played a big role in the success of the show over the past two years and we are thankful for their support,” he said.

The channel said “Since its debut in April 2021, DiepCity has added colour, life and heart to our channel, and it has continued to give us dynamic and enthralling storylines. We would like to thank the production, cast and crew for their commitment to the series, dedication to their craft and consistent hard work,” said Shirley Adonisi, Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net.
