Transnet has launched an internal investigation after social media content allegedly posted by one of its employees appeared to mock a child living with a disability.
The matter sparked widespread outrage online, with users demanding accountability from the state-owned logistics company.
The individual, identified in online posts as Ndzudzeni Ratshilumela, is reportedly a locomotive employee based in Ladysmith. The videos and images circulated on X, TikTok and Facebook, prompting mass reporting that led to the suspension of his personal accounts on at least two platforms. Public reaction has been divided, with some calling for dismissal.
In statements posted on X, Transnet described the matter as “of the utmost seriousness”. The company said the alleged conduct was inconsistent with its values of “respect, dignity, inclusion, and care for all members of society,” adding that discrimination or humiliation “has no place in our organisation or in the communities we serve.”
Transnet confirmed its People Management division is investigating and that “appropriate action will be taken.” The company has not publicly confirmed the employee’s identity or employment status, and no timeline for the investigation has been provided. The matter remains under internal review.
