The year 2020 marks 12 years since the veteran actress Mama Daphney Hlomuka passed on. Mama Daphney Hlomuka passed on due to Kidney Cancer at the age of 59 at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital in Johannesburg.Tribute to Daphney Hlomuka.
Daphney Hlomuka was born in Ladysmith, KwaZulu Natal in 1949. She then grew up in KwaMashu, Durban. She was involved in the arts of decades, mainly as an actress on stage in television and film. Her first professional production was ushaka on Stage in 1969/1970. Since then, she appeared in numerous productions, which received critical acclaim both in South Africa and Internationally.

She was known for her role as Jessie MaMkhize Mhlongo on Hlala Kwabafileyo Part 1& Part 2 in 1991 and 1994, Sis May on Sgudi Snayisi from 1986 to 1992, Rose the Moroka Domestic Worker on Generations from 1994 to 1998 and Roselina Gagashe’s wife on Ubambo Lwami in 1996. She was in the film and television industry for 36 years.
She started her career in 1972 on UMabatha Theatre Play which was taken from William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. She may be gone but never be forgotten. Legends don’t die but they multiply. Your talent will forever be appreciated.
