Watch Nadia Nakai and AKA’s mother embrace as Forbes family shares funeral and memorial service details.

Sending a message of unity and love, Tony Forbes – the father of Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes – addressed the media on behalf of the family, and mentioned the Jiyane and Mohosana families as well.

In a statement of gratitude, Tony thanked fans, friends and colleagues for their support during this difficult time.

“It’s really helped us in terms of giving us comfort these past few days. Of course we’re sad [but] it easier to have that support and love,” Tony said.

Present at the media briefing was AKA’s mother, Lynn Forbes, and Nadia Nakai who all wore black.

Nadia and Lynn were among the close family and friends at the briefing and sat together as Tony address the media.

As AKA’s father spoke about the impact the late musician had, a teary Lynn and Nadia comforted each other in an embrace.

Tony said, “It’s our wish to celebrate the life of Kiernan with those he touched and impacted through his music and influence in society.”

AKA was shot dead outside a restaurant on Florida Road in Durban.

His memorial service will be held on Friday, 17 February 2023, at the Sandton Convention Centre, Johannesburg, where the public is welcome to attend.

The late rapper will have a private provincial funeral on Saturday, 18 February 2023.
