South African twitter influencers have expressed concern over why NSFAS student who received R14 million rand amd spent R800 000 was jailed for 5 years while Natasha Thahane who openly confessed to receiving millions without following procedure walks free.
During an interview with on Podcast and Chill with MacG, Thahane let it slip that Baleka Mbete used her influence to get her funding towards her tuition fees, which altogether came to more than R1 million. Thahane is the granddaughter of Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

Actress Natasha Thahane is now clearing the air, after revealing that she received hundreds of thousands of rands to go towards her studies at an international acting academy.
During an interview with on Podcast and Chill with MacG, Thahane let it slip that Baleka Mbete used her influence to get her funding towards her tuition fees, which altogether came to more than R1 million. Thahane is the granddaughter of Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
At the time, Mbete was the Speaker of Parliament and the African National Congress (ANC) chairperson.

Well, in one of two video clips posted on her Twitter page, Natasha Thahane admits that she may have misrepresented the extent of her relationship with Mbete. Thahane says Mbete was in a meeting and simply approached her about funding options as she had been accepted at the New York Film Academy.
“SHE THEN ADVISED ME TO EXPLORE THE DEPARTMENT OF SPORTS AND ARTS AND CULTURE BECAUSE THEY HAVE GOT FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES. THAT WAS MY FIRST CONVERSATION AND LAST CONVERSATION WITH HER. SHE DID NOT MAKE ANY CALLS ON MY BEHALF AND DID NOT SEND ANY EMAILS ON MY BEHALF AND I APOLOGISE FOR DILUTING THE ENTIRE SCENARIO BECAUSE I MADE IT SEEM LIKE I HAD A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH HER”

Thahane further clarifies the amount that she received from the department – R350 000. She reiterated that the rest of her funding she got from her grandmother’s sister, who agreed to loan her the money from her retirement.
No action expect a thread of statements from relevant authorities distancing itself from Natasha’s confessions.
