Boy Alerts Security as Mother Is Caught Stealing at Makro Liquor Store A tense and emotional scene unfolded at a Makro liquor outlet on Tuesday afternoon after a woman, identified as Manana Rekhotso, was arrested for allegedly attempting to steal four bottles of Jägermeister alcohol. What shocked many witnesses was that the incident was reportedly brought to the attention of store security by her own son, Ntlhari Rekhotso.

According to information from the scene, the woman allegedly concealed the bottles inside her handbag before heading toward the exit. Security personnel, acting on a tip-off, stopped her for a routine check and discovered the alcohol during a search of her bag. She was then detained by store officials.
Sources claim that Ntlhari, who is 12 years old, alerted security because he was distressed by what he described as repeated shoplifting incidents involving his mother. He allegedly told guards that he could no longer remain silent, explaining that previous incidents had placed him in uncomfortable and confusing situations.
Makro management confirmed the incident and stated that the value of the alcohol amounted to approximately R1,000, which was paid for following the discovery. Store managers reportedly praised the child’s honesty, describing his actions as courageous and unusual for someone so young.
One manager reportedly said the boy’s intervention was crucial, noting that security might not have noticed the concealed items without his assistance. Management also clarified that children aged 10 and above are allowed into the liquor section when accompanied by an adult, as they are less likely to accidentally cause damage and are more observant of their surroundings.
As a gesture of appreciation for his honesty, Makro staff invited Ntlhari to return with his father or another guardian to collect a Christmas cake from the main food store.
The incident has sparked widespread public discussion, with many praising the child’s integrity while others expressed concern about the emotional burden placed on him at such a young age. Community members have called for compassion and support for the family, and it is understood that social services may follow up to assess the child’s well-being.
