Many ‘drunk’ drivers, including cops, among 840 arrested in Gauteng over weekend. The first weekend under level two of the lockdown has been marred by some lawlessness in Gauteng.
Over 840 people have been arrested for breaking lockdown rules and other crimes.
Two police officers are amongst those arrested for drinking and driving. They will also face disciplinary action.
Other crimes include murder, rape, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and the possession of unlicensed firearms.

The suspects will appear at various magistrates court across Gauteng from Monday.
The police’s Mathapelo Peters said: “Intensified operations so 285 suspects in Ekurhuleni, 215 in the west rand, 173 in Johannesburg, 170 in Sedibeng. The suspects were arrested for the contravention of the Disaster Management Act and other crimes that include assault to intend to do grievous bodily harm, possession of illegal firearms, intimidation and possession of drugs.”
