Skeem Saam’s Leeto Maputla Calls It Quits

Despite the red flags waving violently and angered threats from her hubby Leeto (Eric Macheru) this past month, Mokgadi (Pebetsi Matlaila) continued to blindly protect her son Noah (Austin Mothapo) from the fallout of last year’s nut factory fire. Now she’s about to learn a lesson she should’ve taught her son many years ago – every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

Failing to come to an agreement as to what to do about Noah’s involvement in the blaze – which killed MaKoloi (Susan Nakedi Leshabane) – the pair have been heading towards marital meltdown for weeks.

Keeping Noah out of harm’s way isn’t the only thing tearing the couple apart. “Connected to it is the person Mokgadi turned into by trying to protect her son. She went as far as blackmailing.

Leeto to keep quiet. I mean, who does that to their husband? That might have been the straw that broke the camel’s back (and Leeto),” says Pebetsi. Broken it to the point where Leeto lashes out – he wants a divorce and that is final. “Mokgadi is beside herself following the decision Leeto has made. Never in a million years did she think it would ever get to this,” adds the actress.

The tension in the marital home thickens almost overnight, but rather than Leeto moving out, Mokgadi bites the bullet and packs her bags – and she doesn’t take Noah. At that moment, it dawns on Mokgadi what’s truly at stake – her family. Even though she sits and thinks long and hard, Leeto isn’t letting her control him anymore and he has official divorce papers sent to her.

“She’s shocked!” explains Pebetsi. “She never thought Leeto would ever think about leaving her.” That doesn’t mean Mokgadi is suddenly going to roll over and play victim – Pebetsi warns viewers to keep an eye on her character because “Mokgadi is ready to fight for this marriage. All she wants is for Leeto to feel a certain way about her again. She’ll do anything to get his attention and to see her the way he used to before this drama went down.” Whether that means letting Noah face the long arm of the law is another story…
