Municipal Workers Sleep Through Night on Roadside After Forgetting to Set Alarm. What began as a brief afternoon rest reportedly turned into an unplanned overnight stay after a group of municipal workers forgot to set an alarm and ended up sleeping on the side of the road until morning.

Municipal Workers Sleep Through Night on Roadside After Forgetting to Set Alarm

Eyewitnesses say the workers pulled over along a quiet stretch of road at around 13h00 to take what appeared to be a short break from their duties. Looking for shade from the afternoon heat, they settled beneath a large roadside tree, neatly laying out blankets on the grass and lying down in an orderly fashion that suggested intention rather than exhaustion.

Passers-by initially thought nothing of it. Some assumed the workers were taking a permitted break, while others believed it might be part of a wellness initiative encouraging rest and productivity among municipal employees.

“I honestly thought it was a new programme,” said one motorist who passed the scene later in the afternoon. “Something like ‘Rest Before You Fix the Potholes.’ Everything looked very organised.”

As the hours went by and the sun began to set, curiosity grew. The workers remained motionless, showing no signs of waking up or packing up. By early evening, motorists passing the area again began to realise that the break was lasting far longer than expected.

When night fell, the situation shifted from mild amusement to disbelief. Despite traffic noise, insects and dropping temperatures, the group continued sleeping peacefully. By midnight, it became clear that the short afternoon rest had turned into a full overnight sleep.

Sources familiar with the matter say the workers unintentionally completed an estimated 12-hour sleep cycle, effectively transforming a routine break into an all-night roadside camp. No alarms were set, no supervisors reportedly checked in, and time simply slipped by unnoticed.

A municipal official later addressed the incident in a brief statement.

“The workers were expected to rest briefly before continuing their duties,” the official said. “Unfortunately, no alarm was set, no follow-up occurred, and the passage of time was… underestimated.”

Some commentators jokingly suggested the incident may qualify as the longest recorded municipal nap, narrowly beating a previous unofficial record said to have been set during a “quick meeting” several years ago.
