These were the words of a traditional healer who now fears for his life after police swooped on five men accused of killing Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa.

Senzo Meyiwa : Traditional Healer who Cleansed Killers Fears For His Life

The 69-year-old traditional healer told City Press that, in 2014, three men came to consult with him at his house.

They told him there was feuding and bitter rivalry in the business they were conducting. He gave them intelezi to use when bathing and was paid R500o for his services.

Intelezi is a herbal mixture meant to cleanse or protect warriors in battle. It is also sometimes used to protect people from gunshots.

The traditional healer said he was horrified when his clients came back a few days later and told him they wanted to be cleansed because they had killed someone.

“That wasn’t what we’d discussed during the consultation. They never mentioned anything about murder or a hit.

“I use muthi to cure my patients. I don’t give people muthi to kill others,” he said.

The traditional healer said that when he heard on the news about the brutal murder of Meyiwa, he was as shocked as all other South Africans.

It only dawned on him that he was in trouble earlier this year, when police arrived at his house unexpectedly.

“At first they pretended they wanted a consultation. I told them it was too late for one that day. They left.

“Then they came back again. Suddenly, there were police all over the place. I think there were about seven vehicles parked in my yard,” he said.

The traditional healer said he was handcuffed and whisked away to a police station.

As he arrived there, he saw one of the three men who had come to see him in 2014.

“He pointed at me and told the police I was the man they had consulted in 2014 when they were preparing to murder Meyiwa. I feel so bad that I’ve been dragged into this mess.”

The healer’s remarks come just days after Police Minister Bheki Cele announced that they had made a breakthrough and arrested five men in connection with the murder of the football star.

On Tuesday, Muzikawulahlelwa S’tembu Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokosizeni Ziphozonke Maphisa and Sifikuhle Nkani Ntuli appeared in the Boksburg Magistrates’ Court.
